Sunday Recap #5: The Qs Fell as Energy Led. What the Next Reports Test.

October’s split market, dated SPY and QQQ levels, AI stocks versus bonds, and the next issuer-confirmed earnings questions.

Published Nov 1, 2026

Updated Nov 1, 2026: Added the reviewed six-stock setup board and dated chart observations.

TL;DR

  • QQQ fell 6.66% from September 30 to October 30 while energy led the tracked sectors at 13.85%.
  • SPY and QQQ closed October 30 below their 50-day averages but above their 200-day averages.
  • Issuer-confirmed events put Palantir, Roku, Apple, Arm and Qualcomm in focus; Apple's release session remains unconfirmed.

October ended with a split market. From the completed September 30 to October 30 closes, QQQ fell 6.66%, SPY fell 0.91%, and IWM gained 0.52%. Nine of eleven tracked sector ETFs rose, led by energy at 13.85%. These are close-to-close price returns, not total returns or an explanation of what caused the moves. The chart test for the week ahead

SPY and QQQ both closed October 30 below their 50-day simple averages but above their 200-day averages. SPY finished at $755.72, with a 50-day average of $767.49 and a 200-day average of $728.85. QQQ finished at $690.49, with a 50-day average of $725.00 and a 200-day average of $679.52. The short-term trend is weaker while the longer moving-average reference remains below the close. A recovery claim needs a daily close back above the relevant average, followed by a daily retest that also closes above; an intraday touch alone does not settle it. See the dated Saturday Setup charts.

Stocks and bonds did not move in lockstep

In the latest AI Stocks vs Bonds weekly study, six of seven AI-company shares with corroborated October 30 closes fell versus October 23. CoreWeave rose; Oracle's exact return remains held because providers differ by one cent on its October 30 close. The same eight selected Meta, Alphabet and Amazon corporate-bond last-trade prices split four up and four down. Those FINRA observations are individual trades per $100 face, not synchronized closing marks or total returns. The study also separates company cash-flow evidence from bond-price moves.

The next earnings questions

The November 2 earnings board lists issuer-confirmed dates. Palantir and Roku plan to report Monday after the close. Apple confirms a Monday call, but its source does not establish the release session; the release session remains unspecified. Arm and Qualcomm plan to report Wednesday after the close. For Palantir, watch U.S. commercial and government growth alongside cash conversion. Read the Palantir Stock of the Day review. For Roku, platform revenue, streaming hours and free cash flow matter; the issuer says it will not give an outlook this quarter during its pending acquisition by Fox. For Arm, royalty versus licensing revenue is the key split. For Qualcomm, handset, automotive, IoT and licensing provide the comparable business lines within its own filings. Read the Arm vs Qualcomm Stock vs Stock comparison. None of these reports had been released as of November 1.
