The October 14 market close
This dated walkthrough compares October 13 regular-session closes, the October 14 morning observations at 10:12 a.m. ET, and completed October 14 regular-session closes. The morning prices are retained observations, not opening prices or a continuously live feed.
Good afternoon, everyone. Tech stayed under pressure after this morning's CPI report, but the selling wasn't spread evenly. GlobalFoundries finished green, while CoreWeave and several other AI infrastructure names took heavy losses. Let's check what changed from our morning update and where the daily charts leave us.
SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY)
SPY closed near seven hundred and seventy-eight yesterday. Today it finished near seven hundred and seventy, down about one percent. When we covered it this morning, it was around seven hundred and seventy-three. It went lower from there and tested the October second daily gap. That gap is partly filled, with a small section still open around seven hundred and sixty-six to seven hundred and sixty-seven. We finished below the twenty-day average, but above the fifty-day. First I'd want to see it recover the October eighth low around seven hundred and seventy, then the area around seven hundred and seventy-five to seven hundred and seventy-six. Below today's low, the rest of that gap is still worth watching.
Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ)
The Qs had the weaker session. Yesterday they closed near seven hundred and forty-four. This morning they were around seven hundred and thirty-six, and today they finished near seven hundred and twenty-nine, down about two percent. The September twenty-eighth low around seven hundred and thirty-two didn't hold. We also traded into the September twenty-first daily gap without completely filling it. The remaining section runs from around seven hundred and twenty-two to seven hundred and twenty-six. Today's low is around seven hundred and twenty-six, with the fifty-day average just above it around seven hundred and twenty-seven. We closed above that average, but there's still work to do: seven hundred and thirty-two is the first dated level I'd want back, then yesterday's low around seven hundred and thirty-nine.
CoreWeave (CRWV)
CoreWeave finished near sixty-six, down about fifteen and a half percent from yesterday. That's a huge daily loss, but it ended almost exactly where we covered it this morning. It dipped below the July twenty-eighth low around sixty-five, then closed back above it. That gives us a level to watch, rather than proof the selling is finished. Below today's low, the July twenty-ninth low around sixty-one remains on the chart. Above us, the August low around seventy needs to be reclaimed. Today's gap down also leaves an overhead gap around seventy-two to seventy-six. Financing is an important part of the business story, but the stock's move alone doesn't tell us why everyone sold.
GlobalFoundries (GFS)
GlobalFoundries held onto most of its gain. It closed near forty-nine, up almost five percent, and only slightly below our morning update. Today's announcement about operating two new New York fabs gave us a company-specific story alongside the inflation headlines. The stock traded below its twenty- and fifty-day averages during the session, but closed back above both. They're grouped around forty-eight. That daily recovery is what I'd watch on a retest. Around fifty-one to fifty-two, the October eighth high is still above us.
SoFi Technologies (SOFI)
SoFi closed near fourteen, down almost seven percent. Yesterday it was just above fifteen, and this morning it was already below that level. Now we have the daily close below the lower end of the roughly fifteen-to-twenty range we've followed since late March. Fifteen becomes a reclaim. A later failed reclaim would add to the weakness, but that hasn't happened yet. For a successful retest, I want a daily candle to test the level and close back above it.
Top 5 up: the qualifying closing watchlist
On our closing board, the Top Five Up: GlobalFoundries led with almost five percent, although it's still below its two-hundred-day average. UnitedHealth also gained almost five percent and finished above both averages. Moderna added nearly five percent, also above both. Eli Lilly gained almost four percent, closing above its fifty- and two-hundred-day averages. Merck added nearly four percent and closed above both as well.

Sources and chart basis
Daily candles and moving averages include completed October 14 regular sessions. Morning-to-close returns compare the dated 10:12 a.m. ET observation with the closing price; daily returns compare October 14 and October 13 regular closes and exclude dividends. Gaps use separation between completed daily high/low ranges and retain only the unfilled portion.
The closing movers rank 202 qualifying US-listed stock/ADR members of the 275-symbol TradingView watchlist frozen October 9. Market-cap eligibility uses a separately captured 15-minute-delayed source-reported feed, not independently reconstructed closing capitalization. This is a watchlist screen, not a market-wide ranking.
Two opening extremes use the complete regular-session minute series: UnitedHealth’s low of $382.29 and DigitalOcean’s high of $127.10. The underlying daily records and the verification are retained separately.
