The one number
$12.895 billion.
That was Micron's noncurrent customer contract liability at September 3, 2026. It was $568 million at May 28 and $142 million at August 28, 2025.
The cash-flow statement shows $12.747 billion of proceeds from customer contract liability deposits during fiscal 2026. Management also said its Strategic Customer Agreements give it confidence in the durability of demand.
This accounting line needs careful wording. Customer contract liabilities generally represent consideration received before Micron has delivered the products or services required to recognize revenue. The deposits bring in cash and suggest customers are willing to make substantial commitments. They are not revenue, backlog, or profit by themselves, and the earnings release does not disclose enough detail to judge cancellation rights, pricing terms, delivery schedules, or customer concentration.
The upcoming 10-K matters because it should provide the fuller footnote.
What the quarter actually did
| Fiscal Q4 2026 | Result | Sequential change | Year-over-year change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue | $54.229B | +30.8% | +379.3% |
| GAAP gross margin | 86.8% | +4.8 pts | +42.1 pts |
| GAAP net income | $37.701B | +42.3% | +1,584.3% |
| Operating cash flow | $43.973B | +73.2% | +667.4% |
| Adjusted free cash flow | $33.199B | +118.7% | — |
Adjusted free cash flow equaled about 61.2% of revenue under Micron's definition. Net capital expenditures were $10.774 billion in the quarter.
The next-quarter guide extends the momentum:
- Revenue: $61.5 billion, plus or minus $1.5 billion
- Non-GAAP gross margin: 86.25%, plus or minus 1 percentage point
- Non-GAAP diluted EPS: $38.15, plus or minus $1.00
At the midpoint, the revenue guide is about 13.4% above Q4.
Four businesses, four very high margins
| Business unit | Q4 revenue | Gross margin | Operating margin |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cloud Memory | $16.283B | 83% | 76% |
| Core Data Center | $18.002B | 90% | 85% |
| Mobile and Client | $13.114B | 90% | 88% |
| Automotive and Embedded | $6.824B | 84% | 79% |
The mix is no longer a single AI-server story. Cloud and core data center produced $34.285 billion, while mobile and client added another $13.114 billion at a 90% gross margin.
Micron also said SOCAMM revenue more than doubled sequentially, it began sampling a 512GB DDR5 RDIMM at speeds up to 9,200 MT/s, and it is shipping Gen5 and Gen6 SSDs for KV-cache workloads.
The chart after earnings
Micron opened at $1,076.76, traded as high as $1,083.50 and as low as $1,062.36, then closed at $1,065.11. The after-hours marker in the chart was $1,075.50 at 4:24 p.m. ET.
The stock remains above the weekly support band shown near $947 and $886. Session VWAP was near $1,070 and the daily RSI was about 60. The June high around $1,220 remains the visible overhead reference.
After-hours prices can move sharply as the call progresses. This is one snapshot, not a forecast of the next regular-session close.
What the balance sheet allows
Micron finished the year with $73.48 billion of cash, marketable investments, and restricted cash. Current and long-term debt totaled about $5.18 billion.
That liquidity gives the company room to fund fabrication capacity and advanced packaging while the memory cycle is producing unusually strong cash flow. The contract liabilities are not debt in the usual financing sense, but they do represent future performance obligations: Micron has the cash and still owes the contracted delivery.
What this is and is not
This is evidence of an extraordinary memory upcycle, exceptionally high margins, and customers committing capital before delivery. It is not proof that today's pricing and margins are permanent.
Memory remains cyclical. New supply, customer inventory adjustments, product transitions, or weaker pricing can change the economics quickly. The size of the contract-liability balance improves visibility, but it does not answer every question about price, volume, duration, or cancellation protection.
The question
Can Micron convert nearly $12.9 billion of customer contract liabilities into delivered revenue without giving back pricing or margin?
