Morning Watch: Tech Under Pressure Before CPI — October 13

SPY, QQQ, Micron, Vistra and SoFi: dated pre-market notes, with levels to reclaim, the wider trading ranges and insider-sale context.

Updated Oct 13, 2026

TL;DR

  • SPY stayed near its highs while QQQ and Micron weakened in pre-market.
  • Vistra’s recent rebound still sits inside a much larger decline.
  • SoFi is near the lower edge of its approximate $15–$20 range; the daily close matters.

Morning snapshot

These written notes compare the October 12 regular-session closes with the October 13 pre-market prices, then walk through SPY, QQQ, Vistra, Micron and SoFi. The snapshot was captured at 8:39 a.m. Eastern on October 13, 2026. These are dated observations.

What we’re watching

SPY: the October 6 intraday high near $782 is the larger hurdle. For a breakout and backtest, the setup discussed here requires a retest followed by a daily close above the level.

QQQ: pre-market trading was already below the recent daily lows. The question is whether it can reclaim those levels, rather than assuming lost support still holds.

Vistra: after a strong week, pre-market price was below the 200-day average and a recent low around $155. Its full closing-peak-to-subsequent-closing-low decline was about 36%; the later low-to-October-12-close rebound was about 17%. That October 12 close was still about 25% below the closing peak.

Micron: pre-market weakness put it below the 50-day average. A bounce alone would not settle the larger recovery question.

SoFi: the approximate $15–$20 range extends back to late March. A pre-market dip by itself does not establish a closing breakdown. The snapshot also uses the Insider Analyzer: roughly $891,000 of reported common-share sales in its three-month scan, with all four eligible sale rows referencing trading plans. Those sales are context, not proof of why the stock fell.

Sources and method

Daily chart context uses completed regular-session bars through October 12. Pre-market observations are kept separate from those completed daily candles. Moving averages, changes and historical closing declines/rebounds were calculated from the retained source snapshot.
