The stronger premarket setup did not hold. SPY lost its nearby averages, QQQ closed below the September gap and Tesla gave back its early jump. This dated review compares the morning scenarios with the completed October 16 regular-session closes.
SPY — Lost the nearby averages
SPY closed at $763.23, down 1.11%. The stronger premarket setup did not hold. The close returned to the late-September low area around $762.18-$763.25. The October 15 low at $764.43 is a nearby reclaim reference, with the 50-day and 20-day averages overhead. The chart retains completed candles through October 15 and shows the verified October 16 close separately; the averages include that close.
20-day SMA: $771.18 · 50-day SMA: $768.50 · 200-day SMA: $725.01.
QQQ — Closed below the September gap
QQQ closed at $709.80, down 2.50% and 5.52% for the week. The regular session never reclaimed the morning 50-day reference. It traversed the September 17 daily gap at $711.88-$713.32 and closed below it. That gap and the October 15 low at $715.44 are reclaim references. The October 16 low at $707.23 and September 10 low at $706.86 are the nearby downside area.
20-day SMA: $742.52 · 50-day SMA: $726.77 · 200-day SMA: $674.91.
NFLX — A small recovery within a weaker chart
Netflix closed at $70.53, down 2.86%. It traded through the $71.26-$71.34 daily gap but did not hold the recovery. The close recovered the current 20-day average after dipping below it; the 50-day remains overhead. The October 16 low was $69.82. Company-confirmed earnings are Tuesday, October 20 after the close.
20-day SMA: $70.32 · 50-day SMA: $75.09 · 200-day SMA: $82.88.
GOOGL — Finished just below the 200-day
Alphabet closed at $340.59, down 2.47%, after the morning observation near $349.70. It finished below the 20-day, 50-day and 200-day averages. The October 16 low at $339.08 is the nearest downside reference. The September 11 daily gap at $333.23-$335.03 remains farther below. A recovery of the 200-day would be a first improvement, followed by the other averages in the mid-$340s.
20-day SMA: $346.41 · 50-day SMA: $344.58 · 200-day SMA: $340.90.
TSLA — The premarket jump faded
Tesla closed at $354.72, down 2.13%, compared with the morning premarket observation near $377.47. The regular-session high never reached the October 13 gap at $377.05-$377.58. The close lost the October 15 low at $355.23 and the 50-day average. The October 16 low was $349.33. The 50-day is a nearer reclaim reference before the 20-day and the morning gap.
20-day SMA: $370.33 · 50-day SMA: $359.46 · 200-day SMA: $387.99.
